Orangutan Maurice, who met Caesar back in the very first film of the rebooted franchise - 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes - is actually played by a woman: actress, artist and dancer Karin Konoval. The character's name is a tribute to actor Maurice Evans, who played Orangutan Dr Zaius in the original 1968 Planet of the Apes film.
